Artist: Jessica Beer - South Portland Exhibition

Jessica Beer is an abstract artist and painter who resides in the western mountains of Maine and holds a strong connection to nature. She draws inspiration from the color, sights and sounds she experiences while outdoors, translating those ephemeral experiences into abstract form on canvas.

A graduate of the Maine College of Art and Design, Jessica received her BFA in Fine Art in 2015. Soon after graduation she moved to the northern region of western Maine in search of a simplified lifestyle where she could focus on her growing studio practice and love of outdoor recreation. Since then, her work has been shown in galleries and shows throughout Maine and New England.

Alpenglow Series - Where the early morning light reaches the mountains, and the first turns are made.

The Alpenglow series is inspired by time spent skiing among the slopes of one of New England's most famed ski mountains, all while observing the environmental changes that happen as the early morning light rises over the distant mountains.

These frosty, bone-chilling experiences evoke a sense of peace, as the sleeping mountains awaken around me with the subtle warmth of the new day's light. Each ridgeline slowly comes to life with a glistening glow as the crackling sound of defrosting rhyme ice falls in rhythmic patterns onto the snow around me.

Though cold,I remind myself to pause, breathe and observe all that is around me.

Jess lives in Kingfield, where she has a small studio among the mountains and near the rivers.

This series is inspired by mornings spent skiing at Sugarloaf and the alpenglow that she experiences while out there.

All work is for sale, prices and info, as well as prints, can be found on her website - JessicaBeerArt.com

Jessica stretches the canvas for each piece, uses acrylic paints and pastels, utilizes water within the process to create fluidity, and each frame is custom made of raw fir.
